“We had a wonderful trip with Alex! He is a very knowledgeable and friendly guide, and also very patient and accommodating. On several mornings when we were late in starting off, he did not hurry us but waited patiently for us, which we are very appreciative! Alex also tried to understand the context of my daughter’s questions from her perspective, and although I could tell that he was not very used to, and at times were bewildered by my daughter’s questions, he still tried to answer each and every of her queries. My daughter was also appreciative of Alex’s conversations with her and her soft toy, Russell (a toy kiwi, which we bought in Russell!) 🙂 During the long drives around North Island, Alex shared many nuggets of interesting facts about New Zealand, its Maori culture and history, geography as well as his own stories to help us appreciate the places that we visited. Alex’s recommendations for dinner places were also spot on! 🙂 Especially on our 1st (and only, unfortunately) night in Wellington, where we had dinner at restaurant Capitol, the chicken dish that my daughter had for dinner was so good that we even ordered another portion to take away! I can safely say that our trip would not have been so enjoyable if we did not have such a friendly and helpful guide like Alex, and we look forward to visiting New Zealand again very soon (South Island, here we come!) and we will definitely look for The Road Trip and Alex to help us make the trip as enjoyable as our first trip!”

“I came to New Zealand with my family, a group of 13 on July this year during our Ramadhan holiday. The idea came from my aunt who went to visit a travel exhibition and took a few brochures of a New Zealand trip itinerary. At first, of course we compared the prices by our domestic tour (upwards 5000USD/person) to local NZ-based tour (way cheaper). But, the downside to most local NZ-based tours are that mostly they have a fixed itinerary prepared which takes around 10 – 14 days to complete the journey from the North to the South island. Since our national holiday only spans for a week we wanted to look for a local tour that is flexible, that accommodates our needs, and that is more affordable. Then I came across The Road Trip via their website. I rang them up and they said they could certainly arrange one for us to fit our schedule. Why do I recommend private tour? Because 1. Flexible hours – you get to decide your morning call. Plus if one of my family member got hold up we can wait for them, on the contrary if we are NOT on private tours the group would probably have to leave you behind. 2. “When we decided to go to New Zealand, we contacted many different tour companies. We knew we wanted to explore the South Island. Beyond that we were open to ideas. What we found was a mash up of different tour companies all promoting similar tours. They were most on buses where we had the responsibility to get from here to there without being able to explore or just spontaneously stop and do something.

The private tours all wanted far more than we wanted or could afford to spend. Then we discovered The Road Trip. From our first communication via email, it was obvious they were different. Chris, the owner of The Road Trip was our guide. He worked with us ahead of time to select locations and places to stay. Our tour was private and he was right there with us the entire time. We had just the right amount of opportunity to explore, be alone an take advantage of Chris’ extensive knowledge. Even more important for us was the way Chris made us feel so welcome.
