Welcome to Tasmania. Upon arrival and being met by your private driver for the tour (or collection of your rental vehicle if taking the self drive option), you will spend the day exploring Hobart and its incredible surrounds. Today’s tour includes a visit to Bonorong Wildlife Park. Here you will have the opportunity to get up close and personal to some of Australia’s incredible wildlife including kangaroos, Cockatoos, Koalas and of course the Tasmanian devil. From here it is off to Richmond Historic Village famous for its Georgian Architecture. This afternoon you will take a trip to the top of Mount Wellington for incredible views. Tonight enjoy a welcome dinner in Hobart where you will spend the night.
Today you will get the chance to explore Bruny Island. Cruise alongside some of Australia’s highest sea cliffs, beneath towering crags and drift up close to listen to the awesome ‘Breathing Rock’. Enter deep sea caves, pass through the narrow gap between the coast and ‘The Monument’ and feel the power of nature at the point where the Tasman Sea meets the might of the Southern Ocean.
Join in the search for the abundant coastal wildlife such as seals, dolphins, migrating whales and sea birds. The highly trained interpretive guides love what they do – they work hard to ensure that the experience is fun, enjoyable, entertaining and informative. Enjoy lunch on the island.
This afternoon explore the incredible Huon Valley and explore this scenic drive through valleys covered in thick forests and breathtaking vistas. Return to Hobart in the evening.
Leaving Hobart and heading Eastward our first stop is the Mona Museum where we will spend some time checking out the Museum of ‘new and Old art’. From here we will head through to the town of Oatlands and check out the Callington Mill. Built in 1837, this Lincolnshire tower mill is the only operating mill of its type in the Southern Hemisphere. Next up is Ross, arguably the finest nineteenth century village in Australia. Cobble-style paths and grand old elm trees line the main street. We will check out the Ross Bridge, Australia’s third oldest bridge still standing, is possibly the most beautiful of its kind left in the world. From here we head further eastward to Campbell Town. Campbell Town is full of colonial history and a self-guided walk that follows the Convict Brick Trail along High Street reveals the individual stories of Tasmania’s convicts. There may be time to check out the museum if time permits. Our final stop tonight is Freycinet situated on Tasmania’s East Coast.
This morning take the drive North to Wineglass Bay.
Experience the exquisite beauty of Wineglass Bay on The Wineglass Bay Cruise. Beautiful and remote, this is a place that only few will ever visit. A shimmering crescent of white sand fringes the edge of a perfect turquoise sea. Discover Wineglass Bay as few people can.
You’ll enjoy a bento box featuring fresh, local, Tasmanian produce, prepared by Freycinet Lodge. Get up close to the scenery and wildlife of Wineglass Bay in the Vista Lounge, with comfortable indoor quarters and a spacious outdoor deck.
You will get the chance to view. White-bellied and wedge-tailed eagles., Little penguins, Bottlenose and common dolphins, Australian fur seals. Upon return from the cruise you will drive through to Bicheno where you will spend the night.
This morning you will get the chance to take a walking track to climb to the summit of the Nut, or you can take the chairlift, with its spectacular views across Bass Strait beaches and over the town. From here you will take the drive back along the Northern Coast and through Devonport to Launceston where there rest of the day is free to check out the township.
This morning after exploring Bicheno you will head along to Binalong Bay where you will enjoy coastal views of Tasmania’s Eastern Coast.From here you will take drive to Cataract Gorge where you will take a cruise on board the Lady Launceston. Explore the Old Launceston Seaport before cruising to Kings Wharf viewing historic vessels and Launceston’s delightful riverfront precinct. The highlight of the experience is then cruising into the spectacular Cataract Gorge as we engage the Lady Launceston’s unique and silent electric drive. View the sheer cliffs and cascades from your comfortable seat with unobstructed views on an 1890’s style vessel. From here head to Seahorse World and check out the aquarium. Your final stop for the night is the city of Launceston where you will enjoy dinner in one of the town’s fantastic restaurants.
