Starting in Cowra, this incredible 9 day adventure takes in some of the Central West Regions most impressive highlights and a great opportunity to explore these fantastic roads by bike. Locations on this tour include: Woodstock, Canowindra, Gooloogong, Eugowra, Grenfell, Greenethorpe and Koorawatha,
The Central West Region is very scenic and picturesque region known as the golden circle of food production across all sectors grain, vegetables, wine and meat and a real highlight to be able to taste the fresh produce from the region on route. The roads are 90% gravel back roads with low traffic carefully selected so that you can peacefully enjoy the scenery and highlights of the region.
Notable sights along the way include the Japanese Garden, Peace Bell, POW Camp, Age of Fishes Museum and the Canowindra Historical Museum. Learn and visit the history of Ben Hall, the hold ups, shoot outs and the Hideouts.
The region has a Lot of War time history. The locals have enthusiastically embraced this new cycling tour and are looking forward to welcoming and providing country style hospitality. Welcome to the Best of the Central West.
Today after arrival at Cowra Motor Inn and preparation of your bike and equipment for the cycle tour you will have the opportunity to relax and get ready for dinner, meet the other tour cyclists and Central West Tour staff. Tonight enjoy a group dinner together.
Today you will cycle along quiet country road to a picturesque farm to learn about a new breed of beef cattle whilst enjoy morning tea. The tour then continues to the historical town of Woodstock hotel, then back to Cowra through beautiful country side along bitumen road. A highlight today is the incredible Bellevue Hill Reserve Lookout which boasts breath-taking views of Cowra and the region.
Today you will get the opportunity to take a visit to the Peace and the Information Centre to see the Hologram and the local produce. Following this your ride travels through highly productive farm land which may give an opportunity to get photos of Canola (yellow flower) depending on the season. Tonight you will be staying in the town of Canowindra. Canowindra is famed as the town that was taken over by Ben Hall and his gang/ You will get to experience the site of the hotel, visit to the Ages of Fishes Museum and Historical Museum.
Today you will pass the discovery site of fish fossils and cross over the Lachlan River before reaching Gooloogong. Gooloogong Park has a lot of historical boards detailing the rail line history and history of the town. Just outside of Gooloogong you will get the opportunity to visit the historical house in which Ben Hall actually hid from Troopers in the cellar of the house. Tonight we will stay in the town of Gooloogong.
Your adventure today takes you to Eugowra, known as the town of Murals. After a morning coffee break we will cycle onwards for 5km to visit Escort Rocks where 8 bushrangers including Ben Hall ambushed and robbed the
gold coach. Back 5km to Eugowra we will view the amazing murals of the historic town. After settling into the hotel and meeting the locals, we will have the opportunity to enjoy the evening talking about the exploits of bushrangers and the history behind the creation of the incredible murals.
Today’s touring takes us to the historical town of Grenfell and the birthplace of Henry Lawson. The town is a quaint little town with boutique shops, art galleries and Ben Halls Cave. Lunch will be supplied by Central West Tours at beautiful picnic spot whilst appreciating the surrounding landscapes. You will spend the next 2 x nights in the charming town of Grenfell.
Take you will, have the opportunity to take time out and enjoy this beautiful country town. Visit the beautiful pubs, cafes
and coffee shops Perhaps take a visit to the information Centre to find the hidden Gems. Ben Hall Cave is
an optional loop and well worth the time which you choose to cycle it or take a bus (provided).
Todays ride takes us along the gravel road alongside the Grenfell to Koorawatha rail line where we make our way to the Café CIRCA 1935 for a coffee and a rest. The hilly country is spectacular as we travel through to to Koorawatha. Old Bang Bang Hotel site is where a shootout occurred with troopers and Ben Hall. We will visit the Koorawatha Falls and enjoy the the tranquil sound of running water whilst immersing in the surrounding nature. Tonight we stay in the town of Koorawatha.
Today we will enjoy an easy day of riding back to Cowra. This route is mainly flat on gravel road following the rail line.
On arrival of Cowra we will visit the Japanese Garden and enjoy lunch. The rest of the day is free to explore Cowra at leisure.
Today after checking out of the hotel, you will transfer to your onward travel arrangements. We trust that you have had a memorable experience exploring the Best of the Central West.
