“I’ve got to say that this probably is our best Christmas vacation so far. What is more amazing is that this trip almost would have never pushed through as we booked pretty late already. Kudos to Chris for making sure that this trip happened despite the circumstances, and for checking up on us from time to time to make sure everything was going well. As for our tour guide, we’ve had the pleasure of spending our Christmas and the rest of the holidays with Tom Stuart. In this day and age, anyone can just pickup a smart phone and claim to be a tour guide. However, no one can probably do it as Tom does. We witnessed his passion, sincerity and sense of humor in every single thing we did. In fact, the most memorable things we did were not even part of the itinerary. He went out of his way to make sure that we were having the best fun we could, as well as have the best kiwi experience. I won’t forget those spontaneous fishing trips, possum hunting, bush walks and stargazing. “We found the Road Trip by chance, and we are sure glad we did. It is always with trepidation when you send large sums of money to total strangers halfway around the world, but we have to say the Road Trip really was there all the way. We were lucky to get Matt Hill as our guide. He met us at 6AM at the airport and handled everything on the trip with professionalism, punctuality, flexibility, and most important, humor. Matt is a good driver, and it was a pleasure not to have to worry where we were going or how to get there. It didn’t take us long to want to adopt him as our grandson. We did arrange with Chris to stay in B&B’s and farmstays, explaining anything with ‘luxury, gourmet or spa’ was not what we wanted. The B&B’s and farmstays are, in our opinion, the only way to see a country, meeting the families, talking to people, immersing ourselves in the country. Everything was taken care of for us so it was a completely hassle free adventure from start to finish. “Our nine days vacation in New Zealand’s north island was magical ! We always knew that New Zealand was a beautiful country famous for its nature but we were still blown away by what we actually experienced when we actually travelled through the country. The countless and endless vistas of mountains and rolling hills totally enveloped us in awe. In the past, we had usually chosen the bus ride tour as our preferred method of spending our vacation. However, overtime we felt that many times we ended up feeling fatigued and just totally exhausted even before our vacation came to an end because of all the packing and unpacking as we move from one hotel to another. “I didn’t want to let too many days go by without telling you about our Road Trip. We all had a fantastic time — the last-minute changes to the itinerary worked well and we were able to squeeze in all our requested stops, plus a few unexpected surprises. Ryan was the perfect host. In fact, I think we’ve officially adopted him into the family. He has just the right touch — providing interesting information about the places we were going, playing a few road games and helping DJ the best road trip music. We enjoyed our serendipitous stops at unexpected waterfalls and the Alpaca farm. Really, the whole experience was fun and relaxing, despite the ground we covered. I want to especially commend Ryan for how tactfully he helped my mother-in-law, who is 83. She is pretty spry, but Ryan was always there, at her elbow, whenever she had to negotiate a tricky set of stairs or an uneven patch of ground. As a result, Gilda was able to take part in every activity. Besides his many other talents, Ryan’s a wicked Snooker player. I think we’ve all improved our game a bit. “Your self-drive tour concept is fantastic. Best thing in travel since invention of budget airlines;-) Me and my wife love travelling solo but recently neither of us have time to research the travel destination, book hotels etc ourselves. So when I found your ad on newzealand.com this was exactly what we needed although I never heard of this concept myself. You guys execute it so well with well thought out route, the tips in provided A4 folder where really detailed and very useful. The founder Chris met us personally at the airport and subsequently he and his staff provided on the phone assistance when needed. The last day farm stay was unique experience, family was very friendly we had great experience including shearing the sheep. South Island scenery blown us away and I am hoping to return there some day and surely see more of New Zealand. The only little regret I have is renting SUV – roads are so great next time I will upgrade to Holden Commodore 🙂 As for Road Trip I already recommend them to couple of my friends in Shanghai and I would surely use their service again. “Our time on the South Island of New Zealand over early January (2015) was simply a time of absolute magic – The people, the food, the accommodation, the shopping and yes, yes, yes the amazing scenery from Christchurch through to Queenstown and further out to Milford Sound. We were constantly surrounded by beauty of nature and the love given by man to take care and preserve. As much as we were ever so keen and excited about starting our trip we were so much more not wanting to leave. To say that we want to return is a total under-statement. The South Island is truly one big postcard of breath taking beauty! Much of what we achieved came about through the fantastic help of “The Road Trip” team (in particular, Chris). All the selections and the level of detail put into our itinerary simply spoiled us with so much. Punting on the Avon River, taking a helicopter up onto the Franz Josef Glaciers, through to sleeping over-night on the calm waters of Milford Sound. However, the big difference during our time away came through the support of our private tour guide, Alex. He simply was there for all our needs whether it be at 6am or 10pm. All was done without fuss and always with a smile and always with our best interest being paramount. Alex allowed us to maximise every minute of our time away to either be extremely busy with booked outings (such as the Funyak Safari on the Dart River), taking a nap (or two) whilst he drove ever so well (especially watching out for the many one vehicle bridges) from place to place through to finding a place for us to attend Sunday Mass. He has a love of his country which he passes over with as much or as little as you want to take-on-board. He was on top of every detail (including all those that we raised on the spot) from the time he was waiting for us at the airport through to our departure and so this allowed us to gain so much more out of our trip (he took away the hassles and gave us the pleasures). 14 Day Privately Guided North & South Island Tour – Couple

“This past January, 2015, Kathy and I spent two glorious weeks touring the beautiful country of NZ. We selected The Road Trip and Alex was our guide/driver. We frequently travel, but agreed this trip is in the top five. Yes, NZ is a stunning country with mountains, waterfalls, geysers, glaciers, etc. What made the trip unique was the ease of planning such a comprehensive itinerary using their suggestions. We enjoyed all the B&B’s but our favorite was the farm stays. The time spent with Alex, was fun and by the end of the trip we considered him a new friend. We had flexibility to make changes during the trip, and always had lots of options to choose from. We never felt rushed while taking photos, hiking, dining, or viewing sights. Alex was very considerate of our needs and we reminisce about the times we stopped for a flat-white. One of our favorite moments was our last night in Queenstown. Alex recommended Pedro’s House of Lamb takeaway for dinner. Our hostess at the B&B put out plates and wine glasses. Kathy and I with Alex shared a bottle of wine from Gibbston Valley with the delicious lamb and view of Queenstown. Thanks to The Road Trip and Alex we have wonderful memories of our trip to NZ.”

11 Day South Island Private Guided Tour – Couple

“Chris Cameron of THE ROAD TRIP arranged our itinerary of the 11 day private tour of South Island. We interacted over the email. Chris was always prompt, patient, polite & understanding with our numerous queries and in a short time we had an interesting and comfortable privately guided itinerary. We were received at Christchurch airport by 21 year old Matt, who was full of energy and bonhomie. We had a compact SUV at our disposal. Matt is a careful driver and we never felt the rigours of the 250 to 300 kms of daily driving, spread over 9 days ! Both of us have been traveling regularly, twice a year over two decades, and are fortunate to have visited many countries, but South Island is the jewel in our crown of toured countries. The combination of green rolling meadows, mountains, pristine lakes, Tasmanian sea and Pacific ocean makes the South Island unforgettable and alluring; and to top it all, if you have warm and friendly people with a helpful and smiling driver cum guide… what more can you expect from a holiday ! Being a foodie, the delicious lamb shanks and tender Angus steaks, made our dinners worth remembering ! If we return to New Zealand we will opt for THE ROAD TRIP again….need we say more !!!!”

5 Day Private South Island Tour – Couple

“Our five day tour with The Road Trip took us from Christchurch, through the beautiful forests and mountain range of the Franz Josef Glacier, through the picturesque Lake Wanaka, and finished up in ‘The Adventure Capital of the World’ — Queenstown. We had a fantastic time exploring the many scenic walks that New Zealand has to offer. There were many highlights along the way, one of which was the glacier helicopter ride and a 3-hour walk on the glacial ice, where “crampons” had to be used on boots in order to keep us from falling! Another great experience was the beautiful evening walk led by our guide Ryan through the Okarito forest on the West Coast, a serene and peaceful experience. Throughout the week, we benefitted greatly from the Road Trip’s suggestions of both the scenery to be awed by and the hotels to rest and revive in. We were very lucky to have as our guide Ryan. He is a young man who cheerfully accommodated our spontaneous decision changes, and who added greatly to our enjoyment of NZ through his obvious pride in and love of the flora and fauna, and his knowledge of NZ’s history. He even played us a great concert on the guitar on the last night. Thanks Road Trip – we had a great holiday!”
